Lady Tigers out of state run

HUNTSVILLE- The Hartselle Lady Tigers got put out of the regional tournament Saturday by Athens 2-1 despite Jada Hayes’s spectacular game from both the mound and the plate.

Hayes was hot from the plate, going 2-for-3. She singled in the fourth and sixth innings. She also baffled Athens, striking out nine batters and allowing no earned runs off three hits and no walks over 6 2/3 innings.

The bottom of the first saw Athens take an early 1-0 lead on two errors that Hartselle could not answer until the top of the seventh.

The lone run of the game for the Lady Tigers crossed the plate in the seventh inning. The inning started with Hannah Jenkins launching a double to left field. Ali Forth laid down a crucial bunt to advance Jenkins’ base runner Anna Stinson to third, while Forth reached first

advanced both runners with a ground out to second, and Grace Cain brought Stinson home with a sacrifice fly, bringing the go-ahead run to third. The inning ended there with the Lady Tigers doing what they had to in order to stay in the game, but they were unable to hold Athens scoreless in the bottom of the seventh.

Athens scored on a Hartselle error with only one out to go.

Muscle Shoals 2

Hartselle skirted Muscle Shoals in the regional tournament 3-2 Saturday, continuing their tournament run at the Huntsville Sportsplex

Jada Hayes struck out 10 hitters en route to the Lady Tigers’ win. She allowed two earned runs off four hits and no walks over seven innings.

Muscle Shoals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Hartselle answered with three runs in the fourth inning when they scored on an error and an RBI single by Hannah Jenkins.

Other hitters included Hayes, Bailey Powell and Riley Courm with one each. Ali Forth also had an RBI.

Hartselle 4, Arab 0

Hope Cain helped Hartselle escaped Arab during her shutout 4-0 victory in their first game from the loser’s bracket of the regional tournament Friday evening.

Arab managed just one hit off of Cain, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out nine during her seven innings of work.

The Lady Tigers had a second inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on errors.

Hartselle brought home one run in the fourth inning, and matched that run total in the sixth.

Sydnee Wiley added two hits, and Taylor Wascavage, Jada Hayes and Cain added one each. Riley Corum and Hannah Jenkins had RBIs.

Southside 3, Hartselle 0

Southside-Gadsden sent Hartselle to the loser’s bracket after beating Hartselle 3-0 in the first round of the regional tournament Friday.

Jada Hayes worked out of eight tough situations for the Hartselle Lady Tigers. She pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs off four hits.

Southside took the lead in the seventh with a three-run double.

Hayes had the only hit for Hartselle.
