BASEBALL: Hartselle 2-14, Austin 0-4

Hartselle swept a doubleheader against area rival Austin on the road March 24.

The No. 6 Tigers (14-6, 3-0) will host Austin today for a chance to clinch a playoff berth.

In the game that counted toward the area record, Jake Nelson scattered five hits and three walks while racking up five strikeouts in a 2-0 win.

Will Foote accounted for both RBIs, driving in Collins Hanners and Brady Netherton on two-run single in the second inning.

Hayden Bradford, Zeth Malcolm, Austin Parker, Netherton and Tyler Cook accounted for the other hits. Malcolm and Netherton’s hits were doubles.

In game 2, Hartselle scored 14 runs on 10 hits to earn the win.

Bradford led the way, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Tate Mathis was 2-for-3 with a triple and one RBI.

Foote and Austin Parker added doubles with Foote collecting two RBIs. Hanners, Netherton and Cook had the other hits.

Cooper Wright earned the win, allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts in five innings. Austin Teague pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout despite three hits.
