Two caught shoplifting, using stolen cards

Two Hartselle residents are facing theft and fraud charges after they were caught shoplifting at the Decatur Wal-Mart and were in possession of a stolen driver’s license and debit card.

Kaleb Gwen Letson, 21, of 586 Birdsprings Road in Hartselle was charged with theft of property in the third degree, theft of property in the second degree and four counts of illegal possession or fraudulent use of a credit card or debit card. He was booked into the Decatur City Jail, and his bond had not been set as of Sunday morning.

Christina Ann Scoggins, 21, of 586 Birdsprings Road in Hartselle was charged with theft of property in the third degree, theft of property in the second degree and three counts of illegal possession or fraudulent use of a credit or debit card. She was transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $10,500 bond.

On Saturday, Decatur Police officers Marquinn Birgans and Josh Heflin arrived at the Wal-Mart located at 2800 Spring Ave. SW to investigate the suspects, who were detained by Wal-Mart Loss Prevention for shoplifting.

The officers discovered that Letson and Scoggins were in the possession of a purse containing the driver’s license and debit/credit card in the name of Amanda Warren. Moments later Morgan County E-911 received a call from the victim reporting the theft of her purse and that her debit/credit card had been used at several different businesses.
