Rev. John Wesley ‘J.W.’ Doss

Funeral for the Rev. John Wesley “J.W.” Doss, 82, of Massey was Tues., March 3, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Doss had requested that the Rev. Virgil Crisp officiate his service.

Rev. Doss died Sat., Feb. 28, 2015, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born July 17, 1932, in Massey. He entered the ministry of the Nazarene Church in 1965 and became an ordained elder in 1969. He pastored several churches in the East Tennessee District, the state of Oklahoma, as well as the North Alabama District. Rev. Doss will be remembered for his constant visitation to the sick and to those in the nursing homes up until he was hospitalized. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Martha Marie Story Doss; parents, John Elbert and Emily Alice Fitzgerald Doss; his siblings, Pauline Doss Jones and Dorothy Doss Battles.

He is survived and sorely missed by his wife, Dorothy A. Doss; children, Angela (Joe) Beavers, Tim (Carla) Doss, Margie (David) Phillips and Stephanie (Darren) Spivey; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother; Bobby (Telete) Doss; a niece; Brenda (Charlie) Crow; a nephew, Kenneth (Kathy) Jones; along with other special nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Valley in Decatur.
