Baseball, softball struggles with winter weather
Morgan County baseball and softball teams expected to open their seasons last week, but several rounds of winter weather during the opening week has pushed back the start of the two spring sports.
Danville baseball
Danville head baseball coach Brian Ellis said his team’s season-opening game at Falkville was cancelled because of freezing temperatures.
“It looks like we won’t be able to play Friday or Saturday either because of bad weather,” Ellis said. “It’s tough on the kids because they’re eager to play.”
“We’ll still come in and practice inside and work on the things we need to improve,” he said. “Hopefully, the weather will improve next week.”
Falkville softball
Falkville High School’s softball team canceled its scheduled season-opening home game with Priceville on Thursday and rescheduled it for March 20, according to head coach Garry Pressley.
The Lady Blue Devils were also scheduled to participate in the Hazel Green Tournament in Huntsville Friday and Saturday, but it was also canceled.
“We had three good practices early in the week, and our girls were ready to play,” Pressley said Thursday. “But as cold as it was, they understood why we didn’t try to play. We’ll resume practice Friday and start preparing for our next game next Thursday.”
