SPRING SPORTS PREVIEW: FHS looks to build on success in ‘14

Falkville ended the season ranked No. 2 in Class 1A, but first-year head coach Jonathan Lacy said his team was disappointed with its second-round loss to Decatur Heritage.

This year, the team is a senior-laden bunch, most of whom have played since they were freshmen.

Leading the seniors are All-State player Ryan Bradford, who finished 10-1 as a starter.

Hunter Woodall and  Tyler Woodall are both four-year players Dallas Mayer is starting his third year on varsity. Bryant Hester and Taylor Steele are returning for their second year for consistent playing time. Colin Eason also was one of the main contributors.

“Most of this group started as freshmen and sophomores,” Lacy said. “We have a lot of experience, and we should be very good defensively.”

In addition to those, Lacy expects A.J. Robinson, Andy Dove and Nick Martin to be big contributors for the Blue Devils.

Falkville plays a challenging schedule, featuring a number of teams above their classification, including Brewer, West Morgan, Danville. They also feature 1A powers Fayetteville and Athens Bible.

“We play a lot of good teams this year,” Lacy said. “The key will be staying focused for a long season.”
