Five wrestlers win tourney

Five members of Hartselle High School’s varsity wrestling team won medals at the Mortimer Jordan Invitational Tournament last weekend.

Ashton Quattlebaum (222 pounds) won first place, Logan Smith (140 pounds)won second place and David Dunford (132 pounds), Marcus Henley (147 pounds) and Michael Prince (162 pounds) won third place in their respective classes.

The team finished seventh among 14 teams.

Hartselle Junior High wrestlers (grades 7-9) competed in the North Alabama Championship Tournament at Bob Jones High School last weekend. The team finished fourth out of 17 teams.

Individual winners were Trevor Sharp (132 pound) and David Hayes (137 pound) with first place in their respective weight classes, and Gabe Defrees who won fourth place in the 177-pound class.

The final weekend of the regular season will be January 30-31. The varsity team will be at Sparkman while the Junior High/JV teams will be at Scottsboro.

 

Tigers sweep home meet

 

Hartselle defeated Decatur and Fultondale during a home tri-match Jan. 20.

The Tigers throttled Decatur 66-12 and took down Fultondale 48-24.

Wrestlers who won both of their matches included Ashton Quattlebaum at 220 pounds, David Dunford at 132 pounds and Owen Milette at 170 pounds.
