Youth Baseball to break from Dixie

Hartselle Youth Baseball will have a meeting Sunday at 2 p.m. at Sparkman Civic Center to discuss its decision to break away from Dixie Youth Baseball.

Baseball president Mark Mizell said the board decided earlier in the year that it would withdraw its membership from Dixie Youth Baseball.

“We’re going to be an independent league,” Mizell said. “What we’re going to discuss is how it will change this season and what it will mean.”

Running Hartselle Youth Baseball as an independent league also means that Hartselle will not participate in all-star tournaments this summer.

Also, according to Facebook posts on the Hartselle Parks and Recreation page, parents were commenting that Saturday games would be eliminated with games only being played on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during the season.

Mizell didn’t explain the position of the board in a phone interview last week. However, he said they wanted to explain it to everyone at one meeting this Sunday.

“The meeting is open to anyone,” Mizell said. “We’re going to answer any questions that they might have.”
