LETTER: Don’t let Hartselle die

Dear Editor,

I hate going to funerals and as far as I can see if this Wet/Dry Vote fails again Hartselle is going to Die! I remember when we had not one but two hospitals. But now if I hurt myself I have to call a friend or get a neighbor to take me to Cullman or Decatur. And hopefully I won’t die before I get there. And God forbid it if someone breaks into my house and threatens my life, robs me and I call 911 after they leave, there is no telling how long before help gets to me because I am not sure if we have an ambulance service and I know we don’t have a jail. We have to wait for someone to come from Decatur.

We need the revenue and taxes from the sale of alcohol. People Hartselle is Dying. The people who have to go to Decatur to buy their alcohol, also buy groceries, gas, cigarettes and other stuff from places like Wal-Mart instead of coming home to do their shopping. They just do it while they’re in Decatur.

As far as I am concerned I don’t drink but I am going to vote yes for the wet dry vote. I don’t even want alcohol around me none of my friends drink. But those that do aren’t just shopping for alcohol in other places. While they’re out on their alcohol run they do their other shopping. They may go to Wal-Mart, clothing store, Family dollar, a thrift store or pick up something for supper.

All of which, could be done in Hartselle. We truly need this. There is a sign coming into Hartselle that states, “City of southern Hospitality.”

Well if this wet dry vote does not go through, we will have to change this sign to “Welcome to Hartselle R.I.P.”

Thank you.
