Update: All but one engine lost at Danville VFD No. 2

Firefighters from Danville and surrounding volunteer fire departments battled a fire at Danville Fire Station #2 for more than two hours Friday morning.

The large metal building, which is located on Highway 157 between the intersection of Hwy. 55 and Johnson Chapel Road, was destroyed along with its equipment. Fortunately, one of the fire engines based at the station was in a shop for repairs.

Morgan County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Corley said sheriff’s deputies responded to the fire alarm at approximately 6:30 a.m. Danville firefighters arrived at scene at 6:42 a.m.,

Roadblocks were set up at the intersections of Johnson Chapel Road and Hwy. 55 to allow firefighters to lay waterlines across the highway. All traffic on Hwy. 157 were detoured around the fire scene.

No one was inside the building when the fire started and its cause is unknown.

An estimated 15 fire departments from Morgan and Lawrence County dispatched personnel and equipment to assist Danville Fire Department.

The building was insured and will be rebuilt, according to Capt. Jason Fields.
