Lady Tigers fall to St. Paul’s in AHSAA Elite 8

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers (57-24) advanced to the semifinals before losing to St. Paul’s, 3-0, in the State Volleyball Tournament at the CrossPlex in Birmingham on Oct. 30.

Hartselle survived the opening round by defeating Brookwood 25-22, 25-13, 25-13. However, their run for a second consecutive state championship ended in the next round when they lost of St. Paul’s 18-25, 17-25, 21-25.

The victor went on to defeat Brewer’s Patriots in the finals.

“Our girls worked hard and sacrificed a lot all year,” said head coach Tanya Lybarger. “Losing was especially hard on our four seniors, but I’m proud of all them and salute them for their accomplishments.

Haley Jared was recognized as a member of the All-Tournament team.

In the win over Brookwood, Taylor Lybarger led the way in scoring with 11 kills, 11 digs 11 digs and three aces. Megan Zuck had nine kills, two aces, a block and a dig, Jared scored five kills, eight digs and an assist, Melissa Paul Hill collected 30 assists and five digs, Sarah Ellen Battles had 14 digs, an assist and an ace, Katy Beth Bole added four kills, a block and a dig, Bailey Powell had four kills and a dig and Jordan Barbrey had three digs, an assist and an ace.

Against St. Paul’s, Jared was the leading scorer with 10 kills ad nine digs.

Lybarger added five kills, six digs, an assist, an ace and a block, Zuck scored five kills and three digs, Hill had 21 assists and 11 digs, Battles added 18 digs, Powell scored three kills and a block, Barbrey had seven digs, Hannah Warren had a dig, and Bole had a block and a dig.
