Friendship Baptist has new pastor

Members of Friendship Baptist Church are pleased to welcome as their new pastor, Don Gentry. Brother Gentry preached his first sermon at Friendship on Sun., Oct. 6. Friendship Church members are busy getting materials and packing Samaritan Purse items for needy children. Most are families with the Franklin Graham project.

Morgan Baptist Assoc-iation’s annual meeting was held Oct. 28. Registration began at 5:30 p.m. The MBA Disaster Relief cooked hot dogs. Ministries were on display in several booths and exhibits.

A Cooperative Program Day special service was held at Shady Grove Baptist Church on Sun., Oct. 27, at 10:30 a.m.

Members of McKendree United Methodist Church are hosting a Trunk or Treat party and Pumpkin Olympics Games at each trunk on Halloween. Come join the fun in costume or without on Thurs., Oct. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. in front of the church.

Peggy and Lewie Rogers of Johnson’s Chapel community have been visiting their daughter, Pam Chaffin and family in Spanish Fort. They also attended Lewie’s WWII Army reunion in Louisiana last week.

Danville Football Boosters appreciate all the help and those who bought chicken stew on Sat., Oct. 19. The Danville Hawks served as the stir crew and 149 gallons were sold. On Friday night, Oct.18, the Boosters had fireworks by the stadium before the homecoming game with Hanceville.

After the singing of the National Anthem, pink and purple balloons were released. The pink balloons were for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Hawks came on the field through a tunnel with a smoke machine, provided by the Boosters. After the game, many enjoyed the homecoming dance in the cafeteria.

Special belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Brad and Janna Pevahouse as they celebrated their 2nd wedding anniversary on Oct. 29.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Morgan Doherty on Oct. 28, and Justin Hanline. Happy birthday wishes also go out to Sue Reaves and Reighly Griffin on Oct. 30.

Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church will hold a Trunk or Treat event at the church on Thurs., Oct. 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This event is free. There will also be a chili supper fundraiser at the same time in the fellowship hall.

At the Hamilton ballgame Fri.,, Oct. 25, State Senator, Arthur Orr was honored for his support of Danville School. Senior night will be Fri., Nov. 1, during the Falkville game. Also honored that night will be Gilmer Ellis, recently retired coach and principal for many years and the late football coach and principal O.B. Owens, who were there for many years. Coach Owens was killed in an accident during the summer, and he is missed by his family and many friends.

Brother Glenn Miller of Neel was honored Sun., Oct. 20, at Corinth West Baptist Church during Preacher Appreciation Day. He has served the church and community with many hours of work and care for 17 years. After the morning service, members and visitors enjoyed a turkey and ham meal with sides, salads and desserts in the fellowship hall. Belinda Ricks was in charge of the food. Brother Glenn thanks the church and community for their support and the gifts and cards he received.

T. J. Holmes was the guest soloist at New Life God’s Church on Sun., Oct. 20, at the 11 a.m. worship service. He sang “Ten Thousand Years.” Many remember T.J. singing with Charles Howse’s Glory Road Quartet. He recently returned home from a year working in Columbus, Ohio.
