Falkville funds salary for school resource officer

The Town of Falkville and Falkville Police Department will place a school resource officer in the Falkville School District for the second year in a row.

The full time employee was identified as Seth Sullivan at a recent town council meeting. He is scheduled to attend a DARE training course before assuming the position.

“After the unfortunate tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, we found the need to respond to the growing alarm of the students, parents and faculty,” said Police Chief Chris Free. “As officers, we are sworn to protect our community and make everyone feel safe and secure without disruption of their day-to-day lives.”

“I personally thank the two officers who stepped up and volunteered their time last year to make this happen in our schools. In addition, I want to thank our mayor, town council and our local supporters that saw the need and the passion the police department has in securing our schools.

“We have raised enough money to place a full time officer in our schools in 2013-2014. We could not have done this without the help of our supporters,” Free said.

Listed as contributors to the school recourse officer project are State Representative Ed Henry, Morgan County District 3 Commissioner Don Stisher, Summerford Nursing Home, USA Healthcare, Valley Rubber Co., Lawrimore Mfg., Falkville VFW, Vulcan Materials and Falkville Wood Treatment.
