Holiday delight in Somerville
The Christmas season grabbed the spotlight in Somerville late Saturday afternoon with the unveiling of the town’s annual Christmas Parade.
A mile-long procession of parade units, which included floats sponsored by Somerville Baptist Church, Somerville Civitan Club, Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and Cotaco’s youth cheerleaders, delighted a big crowd of onlookers as they made a two-mile circle around the courthouse.
Parade riders and walkers waved greetings to parade goers and distributing handfuls of candy to children who lined the roadways.
The parade also featured the riders and horses of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, led by Sheriff Ana Franklin and a large contingent of Cub Scout Pack 226 members and their leaders.
Last but certainly not least, Santa and Mrs. Claus appeared at the end of the parade riding in a bright red sleigh. Their waves and shouts of ho, ho, ho brought smiles to young children as they watched from below.
Following the parade, a free community chili supper was served in the Senior Center.
