HHS athletes qualify for state meet

Hartselle High School’s girls cross country team finished third in a section meet at Heritage Christian University in Florence on Saturday and qualified to compete in the State Championships at Oakville Indian Mounds on Sat., Nov. 10.

In addition, two members of the boys team qualified for the state meet.

Taylor Barnett paced the girls team by finishing 10th with a time to 13:17. Team members coming 24th or higher are listed as follows: Reagan Bowling, 13th, 23:37; Abigail Davis, 14th, 23:50; Brantley Owens, 20th, 24:16; and Tiffany Pittman, 24th, 24.58.

Aaron Davis finished in 11th place for the boys team with a time of 18:23 and John Paulsen came in 20th with a time of 19:17. Chase Barrett finished 28th with a time of 19:562.87 and Alex Wilt came in 37th with a time of 20.26.14.

The boys will compete at 8:30 a.m. in the boys meet while the girls will be on the track, starting at 8:10 a.m.

“Making the state meet was a team goal of both teams, said head coach Kenneth Lopez, “and getting there was a really big accomplishment for the girls. “I was pleased withhow both teams performed. Hopefully, this will help us later on.”

“We’re going to practice hard for the remainder of this week and focus on being in good condition mentally and physically for Saturday’s meet,” he added.
