The Danville Hawks shut out county rival Falkville 30-0 in the final game of the regular season.

Despite finishing with a 4-6 record, Danville coach Scott Curd said his team fought hard the entire game.

“We approached this game as our bowl game,” Danville’s head coach Scott Curd said. “We were knocked out of the playoffs, but we still felt like we had a lot to play for, especially with the County rivalry. So that helps the situation when you win this type of game.”

After a blocked punt by the Hawks with 2:50 to go in the first quarter, David Hannah found himself in the end zone on a 14-yard run. Brock Garrison was there to add the PAT.

After a Falkville punt from their own 15-yard line, Danville started with their next drive on a short field from the Blue Devil 34-yard line. After a three-play drive, Justin Morgan connected with Slater Robinson on a 31-yard pass play for a touchdown with 3:42 to play in the half. Garrison was true again on his extra point, sending the Hawks with the lead at halftime 14-0.

Falkville had the football to start the second half, but quickly gave it back to the Hawks after a 3-and-out. Danville started from their own 31-yard-line. After burning five minutes off the clock on a 12-play drive, the Hawks managed a 37-yard field Goal from Garrison, sending the score 17-0.

The Blue Devils next drive consisted of 11 plays, but ended with a turnover on downs when they failed to convert on fourth-and-22 on their 40-yard line.

Again, working with a short field, the Hawks used it to their advantage. Morgan finds Robinson on a 38-yard pass play for a touchdown. Garrison added the extra point, putting the Hawks up 24-0 with less than two minutes in the third.

A Blue Devil fumble on the second snap of the fourth quarter was returned for a touchdown by Danville’s Matthew Terry. The extra point was blocked.

The next 11 minutes in the fourth quarter would consist of two drives ending with punts by Falkville, and two drives by Danville, one ending in a fumble.

Falkville finished the regular season 7-3, according to the AHSAA, and will travel to Pickens County next Friday for the first round of the playoffs.

Falkville head coach Joel Schrenk was unavailable for comment immediately following the game.
