Danville Week 8 game notes

Danville (3-4, 2-3), Hanceville (4-3, 3-2)

Series: Danville leads 9-3

Last meeting: Danville won 28-7 in 2009

Tough loss last week: The Hawks have been a team living on the edge for the last few weeks, having to hang on for dear life against Good Hope and edging Winfield in their first win. Danville couldn’t rally from being down 19-7 with 6:50 remaining in the game. They cut the lead to 19-14 with five minutes remaining and then got the ball back with a chance to take the lead. However, a pick-six sealed the win for Cordova.

Playoff hopes in jeopardy: If Danville had defeated Cordova last week, tonight’s matchup would have been for a playoff berth. However, the Hawks must win tonight to still have an outside chance to make the playoffs. A Hanceville win ends all hopes of making the playoffs.

Hanceville on a roll: After losing its first three games of the season to Fairview, Good Hope and Hamilton, the Bulldogs have rolled off four straight wins and – outside of Hamilton – is the hottest team in Region 7 right now, especially after they dismantled Winston County 61-14 last week. The Hawks must find a way to stay in the game and see if they can rekindle the fourth quarter magic again.
