Hartselle, Danville go 3-1 in Tournament of Champions

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers extended their season record to 27-12 and 6-0 by winning three of the four games in the Danville Tournament of Champions on Saturday.

In pool play, they defeated Walker 25-22, 25-19; Muscle Shoals 25-22, 25-15; and Sparkman 15-25, 25-23, 15-12.

They lost to Plainview, 15-25, 25-23, 15-12, in the quarterfinals round of the tournament.

Taylor Dellinger paced the Lady Tigers in combined kills with 35. She also had 29 digs, three aces and an assist.

Taylor Lybarger followed with 33 kills, 44 digs, three blocks, three aces and two assists. Haley Jared had 27 kills, 21 digs, three bocks, three aces and three assists. Tori Denslow had nine kills, seven digs and two blocks. Melissa Paul Hill had 95 assists, 16 digs, a block, four aces and five kills. Sarah Ellen Battles had 44 digs and four aces. Tori Miller had seven digs; and Kathy Beth Bole had five blocks, a dig and a kill.

Danville’s High School won three of the four games Saturday.

The Lady Hawks defeated Plainview, 26-24, 25-18; Cherokee, 25-14, 25-7; and Pleasant Valley, 25-10, 25-14 in pool play games. They lost to Bayside Academy, 25-14, 25-23, in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

“The level of play was excellent with many of the top teams in the state participating,” said Danville head coach Spencer Cole. “West Morgan did an excellent job of coming back after running into some trouble in pool play and winning the tournament.”

Statistical leaders for the Lady Hawks were: Sydni Shelton with 41 kills; Andrea Carter with 18 kills; Megan Luker with 17 kills, four blocks and 17 digs; Charlee Anderson with 73 assists and three blocks; and Keilee Stiles with 18 digs.
