THE STREAK ENDS

After two plays, Decatur faced the third-and-17, but Fite took advantage of a loss of containment on Hartselle’s pass rush. He ran through the Hartselle defense for a first down in Hartselle territory, keeping the game-winning drive alive.

Williams, who picked up 60 of his 65 yards in the second half, put Decatur up for its only lead with seven minutes remaining.

After going three-and-out, all Decatur needed was to pick up a couple of first downs to run out the clock, but Blair Sittason sacked Fite on a third down, giving Hartselle one last shot.

From the Hartselle 4-yard line with 3:11 to play, Aldridge completed passes to Steele and Oakes, who finished with four catches for 32 yards, to give Hartselle a first down near midfield.

The Tigers faced a first-and-31 from its own 19-yard line with under two minutes remaining, following a holding penalty and two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Hartselle got the penalty yardage and faced fourth-and-5 from its own 44.

Then Aldridge hooked up with Steele again for a first down at the Decatur 49. Another quick pass to Slayton put Hartselle in striking range at the Hartselle 31, but with 11 seconds left and the clock moving, Aldridge’s fourth down pass fell incomplete with three seconds on the clock.

Decatur took a knee to end Hartselle’s impressive winning streak.
