No. 1 Lady Tigers go 3-1 in pair of tri-matches

Hartselle High School’s Lady Tigers, ranked No. 1 among Class 5A schools, claimed wins in three of four volleyball games they played in two tri-matches last week, improving their overall record to 8-2.

Playing at Bob Jones on Tues., Aug. 28, they defeated Buckhorn 27-25, 15-25 and 15-11 before losing to the host team, 22-25, 17-25.

They Lady Tigers also picked up two wins at Lawrence County High School Thur., Aug. 30. They posted a 22-25, 25-22, 15-6 win over the host team and defeated Athens 25-5, 25-16.

“We’ve shown some improvement as a team overall but are still working hard to become more consistent, especially at the setter position, where we had out biggest loss from last season,” said head coach Tanya Lybarger. “We had a target put on our back by being ranked at the top in our class. “We can’t let that get in our heads. We have to continue to stay focused and strive to get better with each game.”

Combined individual stats for last week’s four games show Taylor Dillinger as the team leader in kills with 30. She also had 16 digs, four blocks, two assists and three aces.

Taylor Lybarger scored 22 kills, 23 digs, two blocks and an assist, Haley Jared had 19 kills, 16 digs, 39 assists, nine blocks and two aces, Kaylee Shelton was credited with 17 kills, four blocks and a dig, Melissa Paul Hill had 12 blocks, 20 digs, 47 assists, six aces and two blocks, Sara Ellen Battles scored 32 digs, three assists and an ace, Tori Denslow had two kills, seven digs, four blocks and an assist, and Tori Miller had 13 digs, two aces and an assist.
