Car show to feature 30 minutes of fireworks

The Town of Priceville is putting an exclamation point on its 16th annual Priceville Cruise-In for the first time this year.

The city has added a nearly 30-minute fireworks show at the end of the yearly event, which usually attracts at least 400 classic cars each year.

Rodger McClure, who produced a fireworks show for the Town of Somerville’s celebration earlier this summer, will present the show at 9:30 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 18.

McClure said he will shoot 205 shells during the show, including 144 of the larger fireworks, to feature the show. He said this show is much different than the Somerville show.

“Everything I’m using in this show is at least two- or three-inch aerials for the show,” McClure told the Priceville council Thursday night. “There won’t be as much of the smaller, filler that I used in Somerville, just because of location where the show will take place.”

The Cruise-In will begin at 6 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m. at Veterans Park on Alabama 67 in Priceville. Registration is $10 per vehicle and vehicles will line up on the fields at the park. More than 450 cars were registered in last year’s show.

Entertainment will be provided by Natchez Trace. Food and refreshments will be available. Children will also have a play area and there will be door prizes.

Councilman Tommy Perry said parking will be limited near Veterans Park due to construction on the Morgan County Veterans Memorial. However, he said a nearby grocery store is allowing visitors to park in their parking lot for additional parking.
