Funding approved for Wilhite Road Bridge

Morgan County is receiving $720,000 to replace one of its outdated rural bridges under the Alabama Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ATRIP).

They money will be used to replace a two-lane bridge on Wilhite Road, which crosses Flint Creek in District 3. The County is committed to put up a 20 percent match, or $180,000.

County Engineer Greg Bodley said the bridge is limited to loads of 10 tons or less and is in bad condition. “It’s not safe for school buses to use and we’ve had it on our replacement list for a long time.

H said he expects the project to be let for bids by the Alabama Department of Transportation next spring.”

ATRIP funding was approved earlier for the replacement of Means Bridge on Danville Road. ALDOT is expected to put it out for bids in November.

Bodley added that engineering work is under way for the replacement of the Vaughn Bridge Road Bridge in Hartselle.

The overpass on Gordon Drive in Decatur was also approved for ATRIP funding. It will receive $600,00 for rehabilitation work. The city is committed to a $150,000 local match.
