Thelma Puckett celebrated her 101st birthday on Sat., May 26.

Puckett, known as “Mammaw Puckett” or the nickname “Bill,” was born and raised in the Basham area, as Annie Thelma Lane. In September 1928, she married Coy Puckett of Neel. They later moved to Hartselle in 1958. They were married 70 years on Sept. 2, 1998, when Mr. Puckett passed away, Sept. 25, 1998.

They have one daughter, residing in Kalamazoo, Mich., and one son, who is deceased, as well as five grandchildren and a host of great and great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Puckett celebrated her birthday for a week with visits from family and friends. Then, on Saturday, the family celebrated with homemade ice cream and cake, but her best of all was a surprise visit from her daughter.
