Funeral for Glenn Lamar Atkins Sr., 69, of Decatur will be Wed. (today), June 13, at 2 p.m. at Somerville Church of God with the Revs. Michael Gunter, Pearl Moore and Gary Webster officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Atkins died Mon., June 11, 2012, at NHC Healthcare in Moulton. He was born Aug. 17, 1942, in Morgan County to Robert Ernest Atkins ad Betty Elizabeth Williams Atkins. He was a 1962 graduate of the former Morgan County High School and worked 37 years for Wolverine Tube where his co-workers knew him as “Pork Chop.” He was a lifelong member of Somerville Church of God and was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and their husbands, Cora Ella Aldridge and husband Dwight and Dollie Shelton and husband Lloyd; a sister-in-law, Linda Atkins; and a nephew, Allan Shelton.

He is survived by a son, Glenn Lamar Atkins Jr. of Decatur; two daughters, Tammy Wesley and husband Frank of Zachary, La. and Pam Chabelal and husband Andy of Casa De Cota, Calif; three brothers, Charles Atkins of Priceville, J.W. Atkins and wife Hesta of Hartselle and J. C. Atkins and wife Shelby of Mt. Hope; three sisters, Bobbie Jennings of Moulton, Dianna Gurley and husband Joel of Somerville; and Carol Parson and husband Steve of Hartselle; three grandchildren, Blake Wes-ley, Benton Wesley and Brendan Chabelal; and a host of nephews and nieces.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Somerville Church of God or Hospice of the Valley.

The family expresses thanks to Dr. Joseph Alexander and the staff of NHC for their wonderful care.
