A memorial service for Tommy Gene Thompson, 56, of Hartselle will be Thurs., April 19, at 1 p.m. at Calvary Assembly of God in Decatur. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time.

Peck Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mr. Thompson died Sat., April 14, 2012, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Jan. 19, 1956, in Texas to Ray Thompson and Edna Kyle Thompson. He lived in Guam, Hawaii, Nebraska, South Dakota and Hartselle. He worked as a behavioral health specialist and was a registered nurse, who worked for Amedisys Home Health. He was a psychiatric nurse who loved his patients. He loved helping others who couldn’t help themselves. His favorite job was working for Jesus. He loved growing flowers, plants and trees.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Thompson of Hartselle; a daughter, Lacey Kepner of Smithfield, Ohio; a stepson, Alex Knotts of Abilene, Texas; a stepdaughter, Tiffani Knotts of Decatur; his mother, Edna Kyle Thompson of Hartselle, a brother, Raymond Thompson of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Valerie Stephenson of Hartselle; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
