Bulldogs pull away from Corner
Priceville used an 8-0 run spanning the end of the second quarter and the start of the third quarter to break open a close game and win 52-48 over Corner in a Class 4A Northwest Sub-Regional game Friday night.
Matt Teague started the run with a second-chance lay-up and ended it on a 3-pointer moments into the third quarter. Cody Gibbs made his only shot from downtown at the halftime buzzer.
“I knew if we could get the lead to double digits, we got this,” Teague said. “We didn’t play well in the first half, but we made some adjustments at halftime… We didn’t rebound the ball in the first half, but we rebounded much better in the second half.”
The spurt came on the heels of a Corner 9-0 outburst capped by Blake Byrd 3-pointer, which cut the lead to 23-21 with Priceville stars John Hawkins and Michael Varner benched for first-half foul trouble.
But after that Teague 3-pointer, Priceville led by at least eight points the rest of the way.
