HHS 9th grade takes county title

Hartselle used effective free throw shooting down the stretch to defeat Brewer 46-38 to win the ninth grade division of the Morgan County Basketball Tournament at Brewer High School Saturday.

The Tigers (13-7) scored nearly all of its 14 fourth-quarter points from the charity stripe, as they put away the Patriots.

Hartselle led a low-scoring first quarter 7-4, but the Patriots cut that lead to a single point at halftime, 23-22. Neither team could do much in the third quarter as Hartselle narrowly led 32-30.

With the game tied a 32, Hartselle made 9 of its next 10 free throws to take a 41-34 lead, including when Brewer was called for a foul and a technical foul in one sequence.

Thats as close as it got as Brewer could only manage one bucket while Hartselle scored five of its next six free throws to ice the game.

Casen Wallace led the way with 16 points followed by Cheston Beard with 9, Dolan Golden with 7, Keegan Licko with 5, Brad Lovill with 4, Dakota Parker with 4, D’Andre Mack with 1 and Josiah Lanier with 1.
