The Hartselle Board of Education approved fee changes for several elective classes.

The changes included raising the medical professions fees from $10 for the first course and $15 for the second course to $20 for each course. A $10 fee was also added to the American folklore class.

However, a $20 lab fee was removed for the following classes: basic biology, general physical science, Earth and space sciences, basic environmental science and basic business technology.

In other business, the board:

• approved revisions to its JFG – Gun Free Schools policy for the first reading.

• approved First United Methodist Church of Hartselle to use three buses for their Discovery weekend on Sat., Feb. 4. The church will play for all fees and rates associated with the use of the buses.

• approved Wendy Goss, Angie Harris, Hannah Witt, Melissa Kent, Mary McClanahan, Yulanda Hampton, Krissee Terry, Teresa Maynard, Tina Kimbrell, Joy Hand, Rhonda Miller, Bryant Whitlock and Carrie Long as members of the local texbook committee.

• approved out-of-state field trips for Real Life 101 Hartselle Jr. High students to travel to Columbia, Tenn. to visit Andrew Jackson and James K. Polk’s homes on March 2.

• approved the Alabama Immigration Compliance Affidavit.

• granted a request for unpaid family medical leave for Julie Steenson after all of her leave days are depleted on March 9.

• approved the resignation of Daniel Bates as high school softball coach and HJHS agriscience teacher.

• approved the resignation of Denise Jones as instructional aide.

• approved the employment of Dee Holland as an instructional aide.

• approved Jeff Hanners and Danny Yocum as volunteer assistant baseball coaches pending a background check.
