Lindsey tells stories from years past

Last week, I wrote about some funny things that happened years ago. Jack Lindsey told all of those things that happened approximately 100 or more years ago. I wanted to pass them on.

He told about Uncle Bill Baker, who was Aunt Emma Lindsey’s father. Uncle Bill was a good man and a hard worker. It seems they had a new preacher down at Falkville. He was a real fancy dressed man. He frequented different stores and businesses around town.

Uncle Bill had killed hogs and had lots of hams. So he decided since he was going to Falkville that he would take the new preacher a ham.

He ran into the preacher down in town at one of the stores and told him that he had a ham for him in the wagon.

The preacher thanked him and asked him, “Will you take it to my house and drop it off?”

Well, Uncle Bill got in the wagon and went home. I think he thought the man didn’t deserve a ham.

We also talked about Mrs. Nelson who lived under a bluff over here near where I live. She told everyone she couldn’t live with her daughter-in-law.

She would walk to Eva to the store. She took a small straight back chair with her and when she would get tired, she would sit down and rest. Did I say its about four miles from here to Eva?

Well if everyone likes to hear these tales, I have more.

We were all very sorry to hear about Ryan Pannell passing away earlier this month. He was a bad diabetic and died alone at his home.

Louise and Jim Campbell enjoyed having her kids home for Christmas dinner, all but Howard who lives in Washington. Jim isn’t doing too well and both need prayer.

My friend Dorothy Hoover also needs prayer. She fell and hurt her back. Happy late 89th birthday to her on Jan. 5.

Journey Church had Communion last Saturday night and worship and fellowship to living in the New Year. Afterward, most everyone went to Denny’s in Cullman for breakfast. Last Sunday, Journey Church welcomed 10 new members. What a way to start the new year.

Mrs. Sarah Moore Mooney, the wife of Mr. Carlton Mooney passed away Jna. 8. Mrs. Sarah was 92 years old. Our prayers are with her family. She lived around Eva and Oden Ridge before she moved away.

Roll Tide! Did you ever see such a game?

I want to share this wonderful recipe with all my friends. A wonderful friend gave it to me.
