Falkville wins fourth straight

Falkville’s boys basketball team (8-6, 2-3) earned an easy 65-44 win over Brindlee Mountain to run its winning streak to four games.

While it wasn’t an area game, it was the team’s last tune-up for before playing West Morgan on Tuesday and the final area opponent, Westminster Christian.

Blue Devil coach Yancey Randolph said his team has stepped up its play over the last couple of weeks.

“We played with a lot of energy tonight and shot the ball particularly well, especially from the outside,” Randolph said. “I was especially pleased with the way we came out in the third quarter and kept the pressure on them and not allow them to come back. I think we’re really starting to play good basketball.”

The Blue Devils had good balance, putting three players in double figures. They were led by Austin Wiley with 18 points and 3 rebounds. Aaron Estes had a double-double with 15 points, 13 rebounds and 6 steals while Clay Austill had 13 points.

Travis Davis added 7 points and 6 rebounds followed by Tyler Anders with 6, Cade Wilemon with 4, Aaron Becerra with 3 and Johnny Tompkins with 2.

Brindlee Mountain was led by Dustin Barnett with 20 points in defeat.

Randolph said his team needs to win Friday’s game to clinch a berth in the No. 2 vs. No. 3 opening round game of the area tournament, which would give his team a better chance of advancing to sub-state.

“I think everyone is trying to avoid playing Tanner,” Randolph said.
