Hartselle High baseball to host camp Jan. 16 (with link to application)

Hartselle High School’s baseball team and coaching staff will host a camp for children ages 4-15 on Mon., Jan. 16.

Head coach William Booth said this timing of this camp is beneficial for all children interested in baseball who will be playing in youth leagues this spring and summer.

“Little league season is not too far away and it’s a good way to help them get off to a good start,” Booth said. “What we’re hoping to do is to give these kids something they can build on when they start playing in the spring and summer.”

The cost of the camp is $60, which includes snacks, drinks and a lunch. Booth said the $60 must be paid by the day of the camp. All the children need to bring is their glove, hat and tennis shoes. Bats are optional.

Participants will receive training from the Tiger coaching staff and from current baseball players. Young baseball players from Hartselle and surrounding areas are invited to attend the camp.

Depending on how many sign up for the camp, Booth said the camp could use not only the indoor baseball practice facility, but it could also use the Pettey Center and the gymnasium at F.E. Burleson Elementary.

“If we have to split it up, we will bus the kids to each location,” Booth said. “If we have good weather, we could wind up having it outside, but we won’t know that until closer to the camp date.”

Hartselle baseball begins throwing on Mon., Jan. 9, and will begin practice on Jan. 30. Booth said his players always look forward to this camp.

“I think our players get just as much out of it as the kids do,” Booth said. “When you have to teach it to someone else, you really have to learn it yourself and I think it forces our kids to really learn what they’re doing. Plus, it’s good for our team to get to know our younger players.”

Applications are available in the Hartselle Enquirer or by CLICKING HERE. For more information, Booth at 256-773-5123 at home or 256-758-6714 on his mobile phone.  Application can be mailed to William Booth, 1206 Ridgecrest Lane, Hartselle, AL 35640.
