FSA application deadlines approaching
Morgan County Farm Service Agency executive director Susan L. McDonald reminds producers of upcoming program application deadlines.
• Producers wanting a Marketing Assistance Loan (MAL) before the end of the 2011 calendar year should contact the FSA County Office immediately. Marketing Assistance Loans are marketing tools available to producers to allow for a more orderly marketing of commodities throughout the year. MALs are available for the crops of wheat, corn, grain sorghum, barley, oats, upland cotton, extra-long staple cotton, long grain rice, medium grain rice, soybeans, other oilseeds (including sunflower seed, rapeseed, canola, safflower, flaxseed, mustard seed, crambe and sesame seed), dry peas, lentils, small chickpeas, large chickpeas, graded wool, nongraded wool, mohair, honey and peanuts.
• Dec. 31 is the application closing date for Alabama potato crops (Irish, red, russet, and white). Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) coverage must be purchased prior to the application closing date.
• Jan. 2, 2012, is the crop-reporting deadline for honey for the 2012 calendar year, or crop year ending Dec. 31, 2012. If colonies are acquired after Jan. 2, 2012, the crops must be reported within 30 calendar days of the date colonies of bees are acquired, brought into or removed from the county.
