The Golden touch

Hartselle High School senior Olivia Golden has been named the Hartselle Enquirer Player of the Year.

While she may not have been the tallest player on the court, Golden could always be found around the net making plays for the Tigers this season.

During the season, which saw the Tigers finish with a 52-11 record, the Hartselle outside hitter racked up 633 kills, 627 digs, 69 aces and 36 blocks. She helped lead the Lady Tigers to the Morgan County Championship and the semifinals of the Class 5A State Tournament in Pelham.

This is Golden’s second time to be named Player of the Year, a title she won in 2010.

Hartselle maintained its No. 3 ranking throughout the regular season and the team went undefeated in area play and in the county tournament.

The key moment of the season was when Hartselle faced a 2-0 deficit to Faith Academy in the first round of the state tournament. However, the Tigers rallied all the way back by winning the next three games to take the game 3-2.

Golden led the Tigers with 17 kills and 23 digs in that quarterfinal win. She also had three kills in the 15-8 final game of that match.
