Graveside service for Irene “King” Smelley, 89, will be Wed., Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. in Burningtree Memorial Gardens with Gorden Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Smelley died on Mon., Dec. 26, 2011 at Morningside Assisted Living. She was born Thur., Jan. 12, 1922, in Covington County to James Albert King and Arbie Faulk King. She was a member of Point Mallard Parkway Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Fred Smelley; four sisters and their husbands, Berttie Williamson and husband Wright, Lula Mae Blackmon and husband Willie J., Jean Payton and husband John and Erline Livings and husband Willie; a grandson, Patrick G Smith; and a granddaughter, Shannon Smith.
The family would like to say a special thanks to The Terrace, Morningside Assisted Living, Hospice of the Valley, Dr. Tim Weirich, all her recent caregivers and the nurses of Decatur General Hospital for all the compassionate and loving care given.
The family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of the Valley.
She is survived by a daughter, Pat Smith and husband Gordon of Decatur; a sister,
Bonnie Merle Harrison of Lithia Springs, Ga.; a granddaughter, Stacia Cantrell Barcal and husband Kelly of Priceville; and three great grandchildren, Morgan N. Cantrell, Amber F. Barcal and Hannah R. Barcal.
