Hartselle JV wrestlers score tournament wins

Hartselle High School’s wrestling team claimed three first place wins in a JV Wrestling Tournament at Sparkman High School on Saturday.

John Duncan won first place in the 145-pound weight class, Ashton Quattlebaum finished first in the 175-pound weight class and Jordan Wilson came in first in the 215-pound weight class.

Other team members who finished in the top 10 in their weight classes were: Wesley Duncan, second in the 119-pound weight class; David Dunford, third in the 125-pound weight class; and Logan Smith, fourth in the 112-pound weight class; and John Holt, fourth place in the 175-pound class.

Hartselle entered 13 wrestlers in the 7th through 9th grade tournament. Ten schools were represented.

“It gives promise to our program to have seven team members step up and finish in the top ten in their divisions,” said head coach Chris Wimberley. “These kids have wrestled against tough varsity competition all year. They did very well where they met wrestlers in their own age group at this tournament. “

The wrestling team has only one event scheduled during the Christmas holiday season. Team members in the seventh and eighth grades will compete in a tournament at Arab High School on Dec. 30.
