AARP met Dec. 6
AARP Chapter #1841 held its regular monthly meeting at the Wedding Chapel in Hartselle on Dec. 6.
Patricia Moody, president, called the meeting to order and welcomed the 13 members in attendance.
Minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Freida Betterton and she extended a thank you to her assistant, Phyllis Castile, who performed the duties in her absence.
A financial report was made by Martin Conley. Moody gave a report on her attendance at an area meeting in November in Birmingham.
The program topic was the “Medicare Wellness Benefit Program.” Cissy Pearson of NARCOG gave an update on the program and offered her assistance. She urged members to keep dates in mind, beware of fraud, and continue to check the mail for changes. She also distributed helpful materials and reminded members that NARCOG is just a phone call away.
Ed Huggins entertained the group with a musical program. He handed out copies of favorite Christ-mas carols and led the group in singing several of them. He completed the program with a solo.
A cake purchased by Conley was won by a guest, Katherine Stephen-son, Venita Proctor’s daughter.
Door prizes were won by Conley, Ms. Betterton, Lavern Stacks, Ms. Moody, Ms. Stephenson, Ms. Gertie Nicholson, a guest of her husband, Clint Nicholson, Ms. Maedrue Driver, Ms. Proctor and Ms. Estelle Smith.
New officers will be installed at the January meeting.
Ms. Proctor was hostess for the meeting. She used a Christmas theme for decorations, which were interesting and pretty.
Mr. Huggins offered thanks for the shared meal.
The president called the meeting back into session after a suggestion was made to give Bill Partridge, owner of the Wedding Chapel, a love offering. A motion was made by Ms. Castile and seconded by Mr. Conley. It passed by vote.
