Bids for pool $1M over budget
Hartselle’s pool project hit a snag today when all five of the construction bids came in almost $1 million over budget.
The lowest bid was from Bennett Construction of Alabaster for $3,123,248 and the highest bid was from Murray Building Company in Birmingham for $3.385 million. Even Hartselle contractor
Mayor Dwight Tankersley, who attended the bid opening in the city hall auditorium, said the bid were much higher than the $2.2 million that had been budgeted for the project.
“I’m not sure what the council’s decision will be tonight,” Tankersley said. “It was much higher than we had anticipated.”
Tankersley said on Twitter earlier today that the city’s A+ bond rating was confirmed once again.
However, the increased cost of the project would mean annual bond payments will increase by more than $100,000, according to early estimates by Tankersley and the city’s bond attorney. Those numbers will likely be ready for the council at tonight’s regular council meeting scheduled for 7 p.m.
