Legion Kids Day scheduled Dec. 16

Hartselle’s American Legion Post 52 Kids Day will be held as usual this year but the number of participants will be smaller.

The exciting and fun-filled event is scheduled on Fri., Dec. 16, beginning at 9 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center.

“So far we only have commitments from three elementary schools,” Jerry Cleek, project coordinator, reported last week. Falkville Elementary School decided not to participate this year because of the cost of transportation. We’ve also received requests from Crestline and F.E. Burleson Elementary Schools to allow them to distribute the gifts at school. That’s something that will have to decided by the Kids Day Committee but personally I hate to see the tradition of Santa Claus handing out the gifts to the kids one at a time be broken.

The three school’s lined up to participate are Sparkman, Eva and Danville-Neel.

“Last year, Kids Day provided wrapped, age-appropriate gifts and a bag of fruit and candy for approximately 400 kids from grades K-4. The recipients represented the schools of Barkley Bridge, F.E. Burleson and Crestline in Hartselle in addition to Falkville, Danville, Sparkman and Eva.
