Winter Weather Advisory issued for area

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Morgan County beginning at 9 p.m. today and ending at 9 a.m tomorrow.

Here is the text of the advisory from the weather service:

URGENT – WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HUNTSVILLE AL

1211 PM CST MON NOV 28 2011

 

…EARLY SEASON SNOW TO IMPACT THE TENNESSEE VALLEY…

 

.AN UNSEASONABLY COLD AIRMASS…SUPPORTED BY A STRONG UPPER LEVEL

LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM THAT WILL ROTATE ACROSS THE REGION THROUGH

TUESDAY…WILL GENERATE SNOW ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTH ALABAMA AND

SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING. A MIX OF

RAIN AND SNOW THROUGH THIS EVENING WILL CHANGE OVER TO ALL SNOW WEST

TO EAST ACROSS THE AREA OVERNIGHT. SNOW WILL TAPER OFF WEST TO EAST

TUESDAY…AND COULD MIX WITH RAIN BEFORE ENDING. THE GREATEST POTENTIAL

FOR MEASURABLE SNOW WILL BE OVER NORTHWEST ALABAMA…GENERALLY WEST

OF I-65 LATE TONIGHT INTO EARLY TUESDAY MORNING.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HUNTSVILLE HAS ISSUED A WINTER

WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS

EVENING TO 9 AM CST TUESDAY.

 

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED…RAIN AND SNOW THIS EVENING WILL CHANGE

OVER TO ALL SNOW ACROSS MOST AREAS LATE THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT.

PERIODS OF SNOW…POSSIBLE MIXED WITH RAIN AT TIMES…WILL OCCUR

OVERNIGHT THROUGH MID MORNING TUESDAY BEFORE PRECIPITATION TAPERS

OFF. AREAS AFFECTED INCLUDE MADISON…MORGAN…LIMESTONE AND

CULLMAN IN NORTH CENTRAL ALABAMA. ALSO…LINCOLN COUNTY IN SOUTHERN

MIDDLE TENNESSEE.

 

* ACCUMULATIONS…A DUSTING TO AROUND 1 INCH…MAINLY ON GRASSY AND

ELEVATED SURFACES. ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE ESPECIALLY

IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS ABOVE 1500 FEET.

 

* IMPACTS…DUE TO WARM GROUND TEMPERATURES AND AIR TEMPERATURES

REMAINING AT OR JUST ABOVE FREEZING TONIGHT…MUCH OF THE SNOW WILL

INITIALLY MELT ON THE MAIN ROADS AND HIGHWAYS. HOWEVER…WHERE

PERSISTENT SNOW FALLS…SOME SNOW COULD BEGIN TO ACCUMULATE ON

ROADS LATE TONIGHT…ESPECIALLY BRIDGES…OVERPASSES AND SECONDARY

LESS TRAVELED ROADWAYS.

 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

 

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL

CAUSE PRIMARILY TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED

ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES…AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
