Priceville picks up pair of wins at Falkville

Priceville High School’s Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs each chalked up a win at Tom Drake Gym in Falkville Friday night

The Bulldogs improved their record to 3-0 by dominating the Blue Devils, 49-30. They built a 19-7 lead in the first period, were ahead 31-14 at halftime and had the contest out of reach with a 47-30 advantage after three periods.

The Lady Bulldogs recorded their first win of the season by a score of 54-30 and improved their record to 1-3. They were ahead 5-0 after one period, led 29-15 at halftime and were out front by 11 points at 37-26 after three periods.

“I thought we shot the ball pretty well and did a good job on defense,” said Bulldog head coach Darrell Haynes. “We’re off to a good start. Hopefully we will be able to sustain the momentum.”

Blue Devils head coach Yancey Randolph was not happy with his team production after winning its first two games.

“We didn’t shoot the ball well, especially in the first half, even though we had some good looks at the basket,” Randolph said. “They’re a well coached team and you have to defend every one of their players because they all can shoot the ball and score.”

“I went in the dressing room and did a dance after the game because I was so happy for us to get our first win,” said Pricville Lady Bulldogs head coach Terrie Nelson. “I told the girls to keep focusing on what we’re building up to and keep working had to get better.”

“Our defense helped get them out of their game and enabled us to score some easy baskets,” she added. We also made 20 of our 22 free throw attempts.”

“I thought we got tired in the game, with three of our girls having to play 32 minutes,” said Lady Blue Devils head coach Jeff Andrews. “We didn’t have two of our starters; one is out for the season with a torn ACL and the other player is recovering from a hamstring injury.”

“We had 32 turnovers and that led to some easy baskets for them,” he added.

In the boy’s game, Priceville was paced by Matt Teague with 13 points. John Riley Hawkins followed with 10 and Michael Varner had nine.

Falkville’s Austin Wiley had eight points.

Katie Barker had a double double for the Lady Bulldogs, with 13 rebounds and 11 points. Jada Beverly led the team in scoring with 14 points and Peyton Parker added 10 points.

Allie Cooper paced Falkville in scoring with 12 points and Sarah Goodman followed with 10 points.
