Brindlee Mountian spoils Falkville homecoming

Falkville football fans had little to cheer about Friday night as visiting Brindlee Mountain scored on its first three possessions and went on to spoil the Blue Devils’ homecoming, 41-7.

The loss dropped Falkville to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in regional competition.

“We knew going in they would run the ball straight at us,” said Falkville head coach Brad Vest. “We simply weren’t prepared to defend them and we weren’t able to execute with any consistency on offense.”

The Blue Devils suffered a blow midway through the second quarter when senior quarterback Tyler Anders was knocked out of the game with a rib injury.

Brindlee Mountain scored on five of its seven possessionS in the first half and held a 34-0 advantage at intermission.

The scores came on a 17-yard run by David Wilburn, 1-yard run by Chris Green,  42-yard run by Dustin Barnett, 17-yard pass from Barnett to Spencer Kitchens and a 27-yard runback by Joseph Jarman. Bryan Canales converted four of five extra point attempts.

The visitors tacked on their final touchdown on their first possession of the second half, marching 50 yards in four plays. Wilburn scored on a 25-yard run and Calales added the extra points to make the score 41-0.

The Blue Devils scored their only points early in the final quarter when they marched 75 yards in four plays. A 65-yard pass from Aaron Estes to Tanner Evans capped the drive.  Later in the same quarter, they drove to Brindlee Mountain’s 12-yard line on the strength of back-to-back 29 and 28-yard runs by Estes and Zack Garrison, respectively, before giving up the ball on downs.

Tyler Boyer had a clutch defensive play for the Blue Devils when he stopped a Brindlee Mountain drive by intercepting a pass in the end zone.

The Blue Devils had 136 yards rushing and 86 yards passing in the game while Brindlee Mountain piled up 303 yardS rushing and added 24 yards passing.

Brindlee Mountain turned the ball over twice while Fallkville lost the ball twice on fumbles and had a pass intercepted.
