Hartselle beats Brewer for area
Hartselle’s Lady Tigers met their goal of winning another area championship in volleyball by defeating Brewer’s Lady Patriots in four games at J.C. Pettey Gym Tuesday night.
The Lady Tigers won the first two sets by the identical score of 25-15 before losing the third set 23-25. The roared back by winning the fourth and final stanza 25-13.
They reached the final by defeating Cullman 25-15, 25-18, 25-13. Brewer knocked out West Point three games to one, 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18.
Olivia Golden paced the Lady Tigers in the final game by knocking down 16 kills and picking up 14 digs. Kaylee Shelton followed with 12 ki kills. Katelyn Hill had nine kills and 16 digs and Savanne Howard had 42 assists.
For Brewer, Riley Northway had 11 kills while Cheyenne McLemore had eight. Caitlin Rush had 16 assists.
Hartselle received a No. 1 seed in regional competition and will meet East Limestone at Lee High School on Saturday. Brewer will face Lee.
Named to the All-Area Tournament Team were: Hill, Golden, Howard and Shelton from Hartselle; Northway, McLemore and Savana Flack from Brewer; Rachel Fisher and Abigail Adams from Cullman; and Rachel Persoll and Katlin Haynes from West Point.
