The Elkmont Red Devils used a physical defense and the running of Hayden Huseth and Cole Glass to defeat the Danville Hawks 38-13 last Friday night at Boss Hill Stadium in Elkmont.

Huseth, the Red Devils starting quarterback, ran for 117 yards and two touchdowns, while Glass had 129 yards on just five carries with 1 touchdown.

The Hawks got off to a quick start, going 48 yards in seven plays to take an early lead.   The drive was set up by Trey Jones’ 50-yard return of the opening kick.  Senior quarterback Caleb Hill scored on a 1-yard run to cap the drive.  Hill accounted for all 48 yards, rushing four times for 25 yards and passing for 23 yards.  The PAT was blocked but the Hawks led 6-0 with 8:40 left in the opening quarter.

Unfortunately for Danville, it was all Elkmont after the opening drive as the Red Devils scored the next 38 points before the Hawks were able to score again.

Dan Logan scored the first of three first-quarter Elkmont touchdowns on a 2-yard run.  Jose Hernandez kicked the PAT to give the Red Devils a 7-6 lead.

Following a Danville punt, Elkmont drove 61 yards in just two plays with the touchdown coming on a 37-yard Huseth run.  On Elkmont’s next possession, Huseth connected with Bryant Wells for a 44-yard touchdown.  Hernandez kicked the PAT and the Red Devils led 21-6 late in the first period.

Elkmont got on the board one more time before the half when Glass ran 41 yards into the end zone. The Hernandez PAT was good and the Red Devils would go to the locker room with a 28-6 lead.

The third quarter saw Elkmont add to their lead with an 11-yard run by Huseth and a 27-yard field goal by Hernandez. Danville would score the game’s final points when Hill hit Jones in stride for a 67-yard touchdown pass.  Noah Hogan added the PAT to make the score 38-13 with 7:05 left in the game.  Neither team would threaten the rest of the contest.

With the loss, Danville falls to 1-5 on the year.  The Hawks will play host to Lauderdale County tomorrow night.  Kick time at Smith-Owens Stadium is 7 p.m.
