Funeral for Hammond Thompson, 79, will be Mon., Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. at Valhermoso Holiness Church with Bro. Tim Patrick, Bro. Melvin Brown and Bro. Don Trosper officiating.

Burial will be in Valhermoso Holiness Cemetery. Visitation will be Sun., Oct. 9, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Thompson died on Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born June 13, 1932, in Morgan County to Nathan Thompson and Blanche (McCutcheon) Thompson. He was a member of the Valhermoso Holiness Church for 33 years and was a Korean War veteran. He was the owner of Thompson Backhoe Service for 30 Years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Thompson of Lacey’s Spring; a son, Jackie Thompson of Lacey’s Spring; two daughters, Pattie Hopkins and husband Bud and Kathy Brown and husband Junior, all of Valhermoso Springs; a brother, Hershel Thompson and wife Peggy of Valhermoso Springs; three sisters: Louise Elrod of Decatur and Lois West and Linda Atchley and husband Jerry, all three of Valhermoso Springs; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Elliott, Gary Thompson, Rickey Thompson, Eddie Lones, Victor Lemmond and Jerry Lavely.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Brown, Bobby Maples, Clifford Walling, Elmer Lenox, Walter Wilson and Joe Whiterow.
