Supreme Emblem Club attends convention

The Supreme Emblem Club of the United States of America held its annual National Convention September 4th through 10th in Bellevue, Washington. Eight members of the Decatur Emblem Club attended. They were Barbara Brown, Mary Morgan, Donna Dickens, Nancy Tapscott, Denise Collins, Barbara Shinpaugh, Paulette Thompson, and Shelly Martin.

The ladies enjoyed a week of business meetings, national contests, and social get togethers. On a bus trip to downtown Seattle, they saw majestic Mt. Rainier in the background and saw the Space Needle. They then traveled to the Seattle Waterfront to board an Argosy boat for a scenic cruise to Blake Island. There they visited Tellicum Village for a unique cultural and dining adventure.

They had the opportunity to experience wildlife and the natural setting of the once ancestral campground of the Squamish Indian Tribe. They enjoyed a meal in a long-house where they watched the food being prepared in native style over an open flame.

The Decatur Emblem Club did well in the contest divisions. Americanism Chairman Donna Dickens and her committee won first place in the Americanism Display Contest. Club Press Correspondent, Shirley Blankenship won third place in the National Press Award. Supreme elected officers from Decatur were Paulette Thompson, supreme financial secretary; Denise Collins, supreme first ssistant marshal; Barbara Shinpaugh, supreme press correspondent.

Melody Catchy, Supreme Jr. Past President from Huntsville and her Supreme Marshal, Shelly Martin from Decatur installed officers for the coming year. The ladies report it was a very memorable trip.
