Duncan runner-up in Randolph cross country run

Hartselle High School freshman Jonathan Duncan continued his climb to become one of the premier high school long distance runners in the state by finishing second in the Randolph 5K Run on the UAH campus in Huntsville Sept. 20.

Duncan led his team with a time and 16:40.10 and finished only 28 seconds behind the boy’s division winner, Matthew Little, of Huntsville High School. The points he earned helped his team claim seventh place in a field of 34 teams and 389 runners.

Three of his teammates finished among the top 100 runners. They were Cameron Cunningham, 51st with a time of 18:58.10; Alex Wilt, 68th with a time of 19:23.60; and Ben Paulsen, 70th with at time of 19.27.60.

Priceville High School finished in 21st place in team standings. Two of its runners finished among the top 50 competitors. They were Tyler Johnson at 37th with a time of 18.34.60 and Tim Rayman at 46th with a time of 18.50.60.

Hartselle High’s girl’s team finished in 9th place with a combined time of 2:00.32 while competing against 25 other teams and 262 runners. Huntsville High came in first with a combined time of $1:46.26.

Hartselle placed six runners in the top 100. They were Rachel Robbins at 34th with a time of 23:16.60, Haley Baker at 41st with a time of 23:44.00, Kelsey Rae Walling at 42nd with a time of 23:47.90, Shelby Kaup at 69th with a time of 24:40.50, Lindsey Elmore at 73rd with a time of 24:55.60, and Rachel Paulsen at 76th with a time of 25:08.50.

Priceville High girls finished in 23rd place with two runners finishing in the top 100. Brittany Plemons finished 88th with a time of 25:36.80 and Carley Armstrong came in 99th with a time of 26:17.50.

Hartselle will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., to compete in the Chattanooga Cross Country Festival on Saturday.
