Runners finish 20th in Chickasaw runs

Hartselle High School’s varsity cross country teams finished in 20th place in the Chickasaw Invitational Run in Lawrence County on Saturday.

Jonathan Duncan posted a season-best time of 17:40 in the boy’s 5K event and finished in 20th place. Ben Paulsen also did well in the third race of his young career with a time of 19:40.

Rachael Rollins posted the fastest time for Hartselle’s girl’s team with a time of 24.36, Two seconds behind her was Kelsey Rae Walling, a sophomore who has lowered her time in the 5K by nearly four minutes since the start of the season. Lindsey Elmore finished at 24:39.

“It was exciting to see some of our girls below the top five step up and contribute to the team’s score,” said head coach Kenneth Lopez. “That was especially important since two of our better runners weren’t able to compete.

The competition attracted 33 schools and over 600 runners.

Hartselle ‘s next competition will be on Sept.20 at the Randolph Classic on the UAH campus in Huntsville.
