The gym at West Morgan High School is one of the smallest in the county and that has already drawn some moans from some local fans this week during the 2011 Morgan County Basketball Tournament.
The county tournament is expected to fill the West Morgan gym for five nights this week and that has tested the patience of some.
West Morgan officials have put plans in place to make as much parking available each night for the tournament, but there is only so much they can do under the circumstances.
Still, no plan is perfect.
The only solution?
If you’re looking for a parking spot nice and close to the West Morgan gym and you want to get a good seat inside, you might want to take in some of the non-varsity games.
Play is starting each day at 2:30 p.m. until Saturday’s championship schedule where the freshman boys will open the day with a 1:30 p.m. game.
Wow factor: Hartselle’s freshman boys’ game with Brewer in the first round of the Morgan County Tournament was hardly expected to draw much interest.
After all, Brewer had already beaten Hartselle twice during the season and the Tigers were coming into the tournament as a No. 5 seed with just three wins.
Hartselle came up strong with 36-20 victory over the Patriots Monday.
“We just haven’t found a way to put it all together yet,” said Hartselle freshman coach Tim Miller. “We sure played well tonight.”
Next up for Hartselle’s freshmen? Top-seeded Priceville at 3:45 p.m. Thursday.
DHCA wants in the field: Representatives from Decatur Heritage approached Morgan County coaches last week about joining the Morgan County Tournament field in 2012, but the proposal was tabled until the coaches could meet again.
Adding Decatur Heritage would expand the brackets in each divison and that would mean an extra game.
More importantly, though, proceeds from the tournament are distributed between the participating schools and an additional school in the tournament could reduce that payoff.
