Hartselle second in tournament

GULF SHORES – Hartselle finished second in the silver division of the Shrimp Festival Invitational at Gulf Shores High School last weekend.
The Lady Tigers, ranked third in the state in Class 5A, won five of seven matches in the tournament to improve to 42-22 overall.
Olivia Golden had a team-high in kills with 41. She also added 49 digs, nine aces and two blocks. Chelsea Bennich finished with 64 digs, three aces, two assists and a kill for Hartselle.
Katelyn Hill had 39 kills for the Lady Tigers, while Kaylee Shelton added 26 kills. Katie Clark recorded 25 kills in the tournament.
Hill also had 13 digs, six blocks, two aces and an assist.
Savanne Howard had a team-high 66 assists, while Elizabeth Russell added 52 assists. Kelsey Bonner had a team-high 24 aces and added 36 digs, while Taylor Lybarger finished with eight kills, eight digs and three blocks.
Hartselle beat Theodore and Daphne to open the tournament before dropping a 16-25, 25-23, 16-14 decision to Jacksonville, ranked fourth in Class 4A.
Hartselle rebounded from the loss to beat St. James, Curry and Faith.
The Lady Tigers finished second with a 25-23, 25-17 loss to Gulf Shores.
Gulf Shores came into the tournament ranked fourth in Class 5A in the final prep rankings of the season.
