Dems appoint Breland as candidate

The wife of a former Morgan County district judge has been chosen as the Democratic Party nominee for State House of Representatives. District 8, a position currently held by Bill Dukes, D-Decatur, who opted not to seek reelection.
Drama Breland, 54, was nominated at a meeting of the Morgan County Democratic Executive Committee on Saturday.
Breland will face Republican nominee Terri Collins in the November General Election.
Collins defeated Jason Putman in the June 1 Republican Primary with 53 percent of the vote. The committee vote was needed to seat a nominee after no one qualified for the position prior to the primary.
“The committee was impressed with Mrs. Breland’s passion for education and commitment to community service,” said Rex Cheatham, chairman.
Breland said she always pictured herself being involved in politics but gladly put her family’s interests first and foremost.
As priorities, if elected, she listed public education, college affordability, senior citizens and job development.
